Man carrying €22,000 worth of cannabis arrested at Shannon Airport

An estimated €22,000 worth of herbal cannabis was seized from a man arriving at Shannon Airport yesterday.

1.1kg of cannabis was seized from the bag of a Lithuanian man (31) who arrived on a flight from Tenerife.

Gardaí  stopped and searched the passenger’s bag upon arrival. He was then arrested and is currently being detained at Ennis Garda station.

In a separate incident, over 2,500 cigarettes were seized from a house in Cahir, Co. Tipperary yesterday.

The cigarettes were found as part of a search carried out under warrant by Revenue officers.

Branded ‘Richman’, ‘M1’ and ‘John Bull’, the cigarettes have a retail value of almost €1,500, representing a potential loss of around €1,300 to the Exchequer.

Investigations are currently ongoing.
