Gardaí arrested a man following an armed robbery and discharge of a gun at a bank in Rosslare.

Uniformed gardaí responded to an alarm activation at the bank in Rosslare Harbour, Co Wexford shortly before 10am.

Responding officers searched the perimeter of the building when they arrived as they were unable to gain access to the building.

A number of staff members were observed in a room at the rear of the bank and officers helped them flee the building.

At this point gardaí spotted a man inside the bank and it was alleged that a shot had been discharged. This man fled the scene on foot and was pursued by uniformed gardaí.

The man was arrested a short distance from the bank.

He was taken to Wexford Garda Station where he is currently detained.
