A 31-year-old man has been arrested after police responded to reports of a man armed with knife trying to enter a property in Bangor.

Officers were called to an address in Fort Terrace shortly after 6am following reports a man with a knife had attempted to enter the property.

However as police arrived the man had left. When searching the area, officers found a car linked to the suspect with a woman inside.

It is understood she had travelled to the area with the man before the incident unfolded at the house.

She could not unlock the car and so police forced entry to free her before seizing a machete and the vehicle for examination.

The arrested man was detained a short time after the incident. He is in custody at present assisting police with their enquiries.

Inspector Richard Murray said: “A 31-year-old man has been arrested by police following an incident in Bangor this morning, Sunday 25 June."
