A 42-year-old man has been arrested after he was found to be in possession of a firearm while driving his car on the M50.
The discovery was made after the man was involved in a minor road collision on the M50 yesterday morning.
Gardai attached to the Regional Traffic Department at Dublin Castle responded to a call about the minor collision on the M50 northbound near the N4 junction at approximately 11.30am.
During the course of the investigation, the man was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and brought to Ballyfermot Garda Station.
During a search of the man, an improvised firearm and ammunition was discovered.
The man is currently being detained at Ballyfermot Garda Station under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939.
