A man was airlifted to hospital this morning after falling from the cliffs at White Rock Beach in Killiney this morning.

The man was winched abroad a helicopter as emergency crews could not reach him by road and high tide on the beach.

A spokesperson for the coast guard said the alarm was raised around 8.25am this morning.

The emergency services contacted the coast guard because the man, aged in his 30s, had fallen into an awkward position which was inaccessible for ambulance crews.

He said the man was conscious but was bleeding from his head and had suffered suspected cracked ribs and a broken ankle and was slightly hypothermic.

The man was taken to Tallaght Hospital.

Dun Laoghaire Coast Guard assisted the ambulance service this morning with the man.
