Man (64) dies after being hit by a car while out walking

A man (64) has been killed after he was struck by a car last night while out walking in Portlaoise.

The incident happened last night at around 8.30pm on the N80 at Dysart, Portlaoise. He was treated at the scene by emergency services and taken to Portlaoise General Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the car, a man in his 50s, was uninjured.

A stretch of the N80 between Stradbally and Bloomfield is currently closed to traffic and local diversions are in place. Garda Forensic Collision Investigators are due to examine the scene this morning.
