Man (60s) dies after fire in rural cottage

A man has died after a house fire in Co Kilkenny this morning.

Emergency services were called to the home in Ballytarsney, at approximately 10am when smoke was seen at the cottage.

According to local reports fire brigades from Waterford and Thomastown attended the scene along with gardaí.

Gardaí confirmed that the man, aged in his 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A spokesman said: "The scene has been preserved for a technical examination. The house is located in a rural area and no one else was in the house at the time."

Gardaí say they are investigating the incident but are not treating it as suspicious at this time.
