Man (32) killed after car struck ditch in early hours

A man has been killed after the car he was driving struck a ditch in Co Louth in the early hours of this morning.

 The single vehicle crash happened close to Brannigan's Cross on the Collon to Tinure Road at Collon at approximately 1am.

The victim, a 32 year old man, was the sole occupant of the car.

He suffered serious injuries when the car left the road and struck a ditch.

He was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda where he was later pronounced dead.

The scene was preserved and Garda Forensic Collision Investigators were due to carry out an investigation of the area.

Traffic diversions were put in place.

The latest fatality brings to 97 the number of people killed on Irish roads this year, down 22 on the 119 who had died at the same point in time in 2014.

Gardaí are appealing for witnessess or anyone who was travelling the Collon-Tinure Road between 12.30am and 1am to contact them at Ardee on 041 6871130, The Garda Confidential Line, 1800 666111 or any Garda Station.
