A man (27) and a teen (17) have been arrested by gardai investigating an assault on a man (24) who was stabbed and suffered serious burns in a remote house in Offaly in September.

The two men were arrested in connection to the assault of Ciaran Murphy (24), who was reportedly beaten and stabbed at the house in the townland of Coolcor outside Rhode, co Offaly last month.

The house Mr Murphy was staying in was also set on fire.

Up to 90pc of the 24-year-old's body is understood to have been burned in the vicious attack.

At the time of the attack, Mr Murphy was believed to have escaped the house and was found by a passer-by at the rear of the secluded property.

This passer-by then raised the alarm.

Gardai say the victim was rushed to Tullamore Hospital but then transferred to St James Hospital in Dublin.

Both men were arrested in Co Westmeath and Co Offaly and are detained at Tullamore and Mullingar Garda Stations.
