Man (20s) seriously ill in hospital after city centre assault at popular nightspot
A man is seriously ill in hospital after an early morning city centre assault, police say.
The victim, believed to be in his 20s, was set upon in Waterloo Street in Derry at around 1:30am.
The street is a popular nightspot, with may pubs which draw crowds at the weekend.
Police believe the man was in an altercation with two other men before being taken to hospital. Detective Chief Inspector James Mullen has appealed for witnesses to come forward.
"At this time we think that a number of other men came to try and break up the fight in Waterloo Street," he said, asking for them to get in touch.
