Man (20s) dies following early morning assault in west Dublin

A man who died following an assault that occurred in the early hours of this morning in west Dublin has been identified as James Griffin.

Gardaí were called to the incident at a unit on O'Casey Avenue, Parkwest, Ballyfermot at approximately 4 a.m.

It is believed a party or a rave had been organised at the site and people were still arriving when gardai responded.

They discovered a man in his 20s seriously injured at the scene.

The man was taken by ambulance to Tallaght Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The victim has been identified but will not be named until relatives are informed.

The scene has been preserved for forensic technical examination and the office of the State Pathogolist has been notified.

Gardai have launched an investigation into the fatal assault.
