Man (20s) arrested in connection with assault of man (30s) in Dublin city centre

A man has been arrested in connection with the assault of another man in Dublin city centre over the weekend.

The victim was attacked shortly after leaving a pub in the Dame Lane area of Dublin's city centre at around 11.30pm on Saturday.

It is understood that the victim, said to be in his late thirties, was struck once in the attack on Dame Lane and fell to the pavement.

The male in his late 20s was arrested in the Dublin city area this morning and is currently detained under the provisions of Section 4 of The Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Pearse Street Garda Station.

The victim was rushed by ambulance to the nearby St James's Hospital in the south inner city.

He was later transferred to Beaumont Hospital, which specialises in treatment for head injuries.

He was in a critical condition initially - however, his condition has since improved and stabilised.

He is expected to recover from his injuries.
