Lent a hand: Priest takes to streets to give ashes
A parish priest got "proactive" in bringing Ash Wednesday ashes to his parishioners.
Fr Brian White, a curate in Blackrock, Co Louth, took to the town's promenade yesterday so he could get to parishioners who couldn't make it to Mass.
He said the parish pastoral council came up with the initiative and between 12.30pm and 5.30pm, with a team of people, he helped distribute the ashes to motorists, walkers, tourists and council workers.
"It is the first year we have done it and it has gone down very well," he said. "We have to be proactive. Even people out walking their dogs who did not know about it are stopping," he said.
