Their county footballers keep their best until August and September every year.
But Kerry as a 'year-round' destination is at the heart of a new tourism initiative being launched in the Kingdom.
Domestic and international visitors flock to towns like Killarney, Tralee and Listowel every summer, with one in every four jobs in the county in tourism.
However, businesses and public bodies say the county has something to offer "12 months of the year" and have begun a drive to market the county in a new way.
The initiative follows the Destination Kerry forum - which brought public bodies like Kerry County Council and Fáilte Ireland together with businesses, as well as a series of public consultations.
Plans are now afoot to promote various year-round attractions like the Wild Atlantic Way as well as a new five-year tourism strategy.
"Kerry is experiencing its greatest year ever for tourism with the numbers we're seeing," Minister for the Diaspora Jimmy Deenihan said at a special lunch to mark the initiative.
"The Wild Atlantic Way is at its best in the winter - when it's wildest.
"We have to promote that year-round as well as developing things like outdoor tourism and, of course, local food as well."
