A FAST-food chain found itself very unpopular after refusing to serve a group of firemen who had just finished battling a blaze.

The men from the Cork County Fire Service stopped off at the McDonald's in Douglas, Co Cork at 4.30am yesterday morning after attending a fire. However, their fire truck was too big for the Drive Thru, so the courageous crew had no option but to walk around to order their food.

However, McDonald's refused to serve them as they can not serve people walking through a drive thru.

Despite being left hungry last night the firemen had a consolation this morning. Grocery chain Centra got wind of the fire crew's predicament, and rewarded the crew with several breakfast rolls.

In a statement McDonald's said they cannot serve people who walk up to the drive thru hatch for insurance and security reasons.

"It is regrettable that this situation arose and McDonald's apologies that an alternative solution was not found on the night in question in order to fulfil the order requests of the members of the Fire Brigade."
