AN Irish charity savoured an unexpected boost when international model and actress Emily Ratajkowski (26) took time to pay a visit.

Ms Ratajkowski is a regular visitor to Ireland as her parents have a home in west Cork.

After hearing her parents praise the work of the Cork ARC Cancer Support House in Bantry, the model decided to call along and lend her support to their worthy work.

The Bantry facility provides vital support services for cancer survivors, their family members, carers and friends.

It has emerged as one of the most vital elements in the cancer support network in west Cork and south Kerry.

Ms Ratajkowski said she was "very impressed" with the work being done and vowed to offer whatever support she can in future.

Local organisers including Catríona O'Mahony and Claire Spillane admitted they were "over the moon" with the unexpected visit.

They said they hoped such public support from a star like Ms Ratajkowski would remind people of how important it is to back facilities like the ARC Cancer Support House in Bantry.

"Cork ARC was established to provide a holistic centre in which people with cancer and their families can find emotional support, practical help and trust," they said.

"Our aim is to provide therapies that complement the medical model and adhere to best practice, so as to make a difference to the lives of those affected by cancer."

The importance of the Bantry ARC Cancer Support House is underlined by the fact the local catchment area is some distance from major cancer care centres in Cork city, Killarney or Tralee.

The 26 year old model has been hailed as one of the most beautiful women in the world.

She sprang to global attention with her role in the music video for star Robin Thicke's smash hit 'Blurred Lines' in 2013.

Ms Ratajkowski has also starred in a number of films including 'Gone Girl', 'Entourage' and 'We Are Your Friends.'

She was born in London but spent a large portion of her children in Ireland and Spain.

As a model, she has worked for some of the world's leading fashion houses.

The model is now based in New York and is also renowned for boasting one of the world's biggest followings on social media.
