'I heard a roar from him and thought he was watching the football. Then he said ‘I’ve won the EuroMillions’!'
Dublin man and Clare family collect their separate winnings
A delighted family from Clare celebrated today as they collected their €4.4m lottery jackpot.
The family, who do not wish their win to be a public one, said they were "shocked and stunned" when they realised they had won this big jackpot.
Their €4 Quick Pick ticket was bought in the Post Office in Sixmilebridge, Ennis, Co. Clare on Friday 4 July 2014.
Meanwhile, a very happy South Dublin man collected a cheque for €385,460. H
e won the prize in last Friday’s EuroMillions draw when he matched five numbers and a Lucky Star. He was one number away from winning the €42 million jackpot, but was ecstatic with his win.
The winner, who also wishes to remain anonymous, said: “Each Friday I go down to Liffey Valley Shopping Centre with the kids and I’ll buy a EuroMillions ticket."
"I’ll check if the ticket has won anything on the following Friday but for some reason, I checked it the next day when I was picking my daughter up from College."
"The scanner said contact the National Lottery and I thought I must have won at least €250!” he said as he toasted his win with a glass of champagne today.
He bought his €4 Quick Pick ticket in Tuthills in Liffey Valley Shopping Centre, Quarryvale, Dublin 22.
“I got back home and checked the Lottery website and I just couldn’t believe it!”
His wife said, “I heard a roar from him and thought he was watching the football. Then he said, ‘I’ve won the EuroMillions’!”
The lucky man plans to pay off the mortgage and upgrade his car.
“The kids want to go to Disneyland in Florida – maybe we’ll just have to do that too!” he smiled.
