House sale blow for Shane Filan after concert woe
SINGER Shane Filan has suffered a double-blow with the cancellation of the Garth Brooks concerts and a new cut in the price of his house for sale in his hometown Sligo.
He was due to play before an 80,000 crowd ahead of the planned Brooks Sunday night concert in Croke Park.
As the news broke that the show is definitely cancelled there was speculation that a house sale has been agreed at €800,000 – €200,000 below the €1m the receiver in charge of the sale was originally seeking.
Shane's home at Carraroe, outside Sligo town, was built for €3m. At one stage while he still lived in it he turned down an overseas offer of €10m for it.
It was put up for sale following a creditors' meeting when it was revealed the former Westlife singer had debts of €23m.
The 'Sligo Champion' yesterday reported that a high-profile overseas buyer has agreed to buy the house at a knockdown €800,000.
Auctioneer David Reynolds of Sligo declined to give any details of who was now interested in the property. "We had a good interest in it and there were a couple of bidders," he said.
Shane now lives with his wife Gillian and their three children in Surrey. He said he was "devastated" that the Garth Brooks concerts had been cancelled.
