THE heartbroken family of a little girl who lost a brave battle against cancer is to donate gifts to sick children in her memory.

Alisha Savage (4) died in January 2015 after losing her courageous battle against a rare form of cancer.

Alisha’s battle included undergoing pioneering treatment at a Boston Hospital in the US in 2014.

The little girl had fought her condition, which affects just one child in 1.1 million, for more than two years.

The courage of the Glanmire toddler inspired everyone who met her.

Now, her parents, John and Michelle, will distribute presents to sick children all over Cork to mark their beloved daughter’s August 20 birthday.

A major toy donation, collection and distribution programme is already underway.

Alisha’s mother, Michelle, said her daughter would “light up” every time she received a card or gift during her medical battle.

Now, the family wants other sick children to experience the same feeling of compassion, generosity and hope.

“Alisha would get cards or gifts and her face would light up,” she said.

“She would forget about all the pain and suffering even if it was only for a couple of minutes.”

“Alisha was a very positive little girl and every day we made sure she had something small that kept her going through her treatments.”

The family also want to ensure that Alisha’s birthday remains a day of special memories and hope – and that it is not something her little sister, Emma Louise, will ever grow up to dread.

Renowned charity, Cork Penny Dinners, is lending their support to the toy appeal for sick children by helping collect donated presents.

Michelle and John admitted that, while they will be heartbroken on August 20 for what would have been Alisha’s sixth birthday, they want to offer something positive to other children in their daughter’s memory.

A substantial number of the toys to be distributed will involve characters from ‘Frozen’ which was Alisha’s favourite film.
