Good news - sunny spells, dry weather and temperatures of up to 19C predicted for this weekend

Mild weather, dry spells and temperatures of up to 19C have been forecasted for this weekend.

While many of us woke up to grey skies and rain this morning, it's not all bad news as plenty of dry spells and mild climes are expected as we reach the weekend.

Met Eireann said in a statement: "It will be wet and windy to begin today, with rain and gusty south to southwest winds in many areas.

"However, brighter conditions, with sunny spells and scattered showers will spread from the northwest this morning and winds will veer to a gusty westerly.

"Some showers will turn heavy in the afternoon especially in northwestern counties."

The national forecaster said that we can expect top temperatures of 16C today and tonight it will fall as low as 5C, with some patchy mist developing in midland areas.

Don't forget your raincoat or umbrella again tomorrow, although it is expected to be dry and bright in the morning there will be "persistent showers" later on.

Met Eireann said: "It will become cloudy generally, with rain moving in to Atlantic coastal counties in the afternoon and to other areas in the evening. Afternoon highs of 15 to 17C and southerly winds increasing fresh to strong by evening.

"It will be mild on Thursday, night with scattered outbreaks of rain, persistent in coastal areas of the southwest and west and lows of 10 to 14C in fresh south to southwest winds."

Friday is expected to be mild , humid and breezy in many areas.

There will be scattered outbreaks of rain in the morning, then it will be mostly dry in midland and eastern areas but persistent rain is forecasted further west.

There is good news for anyone hoping to embrace the outdoors this weekend.

Met Eireann said: "Very mild and breezy through Saturday in mostly moderate to fresh southerly winds.

"Current indications suggest a lot of dry weather with just occasional rain signalled along Atlantic and southern coasts.

"Cloud amounts will vary, but sunny spells are indicated, especially over the northern half of the country. Maximum temperatures again ranging 16 to 19 C.

"Mild breezy and cloudier on Sunday with scattered outbreaks of rain, persistent in western areas but good dry periods at times in the east with some sunny breaks."
