Gone in 17 seconds: Brave bike engineer fights off thieves after daylight snatch Newsdesk Newsdesk

This is the moment a pair of brazen thieves grabbed a valuable bicycle from outside a Dublin home while it's owner left it unattended for just seconds.

A video, posted online by 360 Cycles in Clontarf, shows one of their head mechanics Marius Judickas parking his carbon racing bike outside an apartment complex in the Dublin suburb at the weekend.

The 31-year-old, who is originally from Lithuania, leaves it for just seconds and in that time a pair of young men, who are already on two bicycles, walk by.

One of the men grabs the valuable bike and moves to cycle off but Marius is quick to react and jumps on the thief's back.

The pair tussle with Marius eventually escaping with only a few scratches.

Writing on Facebook the shop asks: "How quick can a bike be robbed?? Less than 17 seconds based on this video.

"One of our head mechanics was very lucky to get away with about €200 worth of damage rather than losing his carbon racing bike.

"This happened in Clontarf over the weekend and we would like to urge all bike owners to lock their bikes at all times even if you are just leaving it for under a minute."
