GARDAI are keeping an open mind about the death of a woman whose body was found in a Cork house.

The woman, understood to be in her late 30s, was found dead in a property in a Bandon housing estate in west Cork.

She was discovered after neighbours and friends became concerned about her welfare.

Gardai have requested the assistance of the State Pathologist's Office for their investigation.

A full post mortem examination will be conducted at Cork University Hospital (CUH) by State Pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy.

Gardai stressed that the nature of their investigation will be determined by the findings of the post mortem examination.

Detectives and uniformed Gardai are now conducting inquiries to determine the last known movements of the woman in the west Cork town.

Anyone who may have seen the woman over the past 72 hours is asked to contact Bandon Garda Station.

It is understood there was no sign of a break-in at the property.

The woman is believed to have a number of children.
