Gardai have arrested a convicted sex attacker wanted by British authorities.
Mian Mujahid Ali Shahid (19) was arrested by gardai at Dublin Airport last night as he boarded a flight to Dubai.
The arrest took place at 10.40pm.
He is detained at Clontarf Garda Station and is expected to appear before a special sitting of the High Court later today.
Gardai received a request for assistance in tracing Al Shahid from police in the UK and received a European Arrest Warrant.
It was believed he travelled to Ireland from Scotland earlier this year where he had been living temporarily.
He was last seen in the Foynes area of Limerick on August 11th.
Gardaí issued an appeal to the public for assistance last Thursday when exhaustive enquiries over a ten day period had failed to locate Shahid.
The Sex Offender Management and intelligence Unit is responsible for the monitoring of convicted sex offenders on a national basis in conjunction with local Gardaí and works closely with other European Police authorities, including the UK, with regard to transient sex offenders.
Pakistani national Al Shahid was convicted in his absence at Stafford Crown Court in April of two counts of sexual assault on an 18-year-old woman.
Shahid is just the latest sex offender to abscond to Ireland from the UK.
Last April, gardaí were involved in a manhunt for Ryan Humpage (18) who had spent some time in Sligo and Kildare that month after travelling here from Lancashire, England.
Humpage was arrested by the PSNI in May in Belfast and was jailed for 18 months earlier this month for having sex with a 13-year-old schoolgirl four times.
