Gardaí have issued a stark warning over bogus callers offering 'free play' in the Euromillions draw.

In a message, posted on their official Facebook page, gardaí said it had been brought to the attention of the National Lottery that members of the public are receiving phone calls.

They write that the calls are coming from a Dublin number and members of the public are being offered "free play in the EuroMillions game".

A National Lottery spokesperson said today: “We have been contacted by several people in the last few weeks about such calls.

"We would like to reassure our players, and members of the public, that this activity has nothing to do with the National Lottery, and we would advise caution.”

A garda spokesperson added: "Gardai wish to remind the public to be extra careful with their personal, bank and other financial details when online or over the phone."
