Gardaí make arrest after man (60s) stabbed on busy street

A man has been arrested by gardaí investigating the daytime stabbing of a man in his 60s on a busy Co Kerry Street.

On Monday afternoon at around 2pm the man received stab wounds after an altercation near the Kerry County Library on Moyderwell Street in Tralee.

The man was rushed to Kerry University Hospital where his injuries were not thought to be life threatening.

Late last night gardaí arrested a man in his 30s in Tralee in connection with the incident.

The man is being held in Killarney Garda Station under Section 4.

Witnesses are asked to contact Tralee Garda Station on  (066) 710 2300 or the Garda confidential line.

Local councillor Pat McCarthy said gardaí were studying CCTV from the street in their investigation.

"Thankfully it's not the norm in most smaller towns and certainly not here," he said.
