Garda arrested in connection to 'drugs-related activities' released without charge
The female garda arrested in connection to 'drugs-related activities' has been released without charge tonight.
The woman, a serving garda in a North Dublin city station, was arrested in Sligo last night.
She was arrested after gardai began to suspect sensitive information was being leaked to a criminal gang operating in the North West of the country.
A number of the gang's key figures are currently serving prison sentences.
As part of the investigation, her work was examined and access to information reviewed.
A man, in his thirties, was also arrested and has also been released.
Earlier today the garda commissioner, Noirin O'Sullivan, suspended the garda involved.
Gardai in Sligo town arrested both with the assistance of the National Support Services.
The arrests resulted from an investigation by the Organised Crime Unit and Sligo gardai into the activities of a criminal gang operating in the north-west of the country.
The arrests occurred at 6.30pm yesterday evening.
A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
