Gardaí in Meath have renewed their appeal for information following a fatal hit and run last Thursday.

A man in his 20s was found on the Rathmolyon to Summerhill Road after being struck by a vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, believed to have been travelling in a dark green Ford Mondeo saloon car, fled the scene.

Gardaí are urging people to be on the lookout for a car with significant damage done to the front and believe it will have a registration plate dated between 2001 and 2007.

The man who died was named locally as Colin Tuite.

Speaking to Independent.ie after the incident, Superintendent Brian Daly of Summerhill Garda Station called for any witnesses to come forward.

"The young man was walking from his house on the New Road towards the Summerhill direction," he said.

"The car, which was driving very erratically, passed the town and turned left [on to the New Road] and struck him about 300 yards away.

"We understand there are a number of people who witnessed this incident and we are currently trying to locate them."

Anyone with information is to contact Trim Garda Station at 046-9481540 the Garda Confidential Line  1800-666111 or any Garda Station.
