Former Crimeline garda dismissed from manager training course after paedophile past revealed
A former garda and Crimeline presenter who was convicted of seeking sex with an underage girl in a brothel has been dismissed from a train manager course.
Gerard Lynch, who was jailed for nine months in 2000 for his crime, had been seeking work in the UK as a train manager with the transport company First Great Western.
The sex offender had submitted an application with falsified information in order to secure a place on the training course.
However, when the truth of his past was revealed to his future employers, Lynch was immediately removed from the training course.
The 54-year-old paedophile fled from Ireland to the UK after he served his jail sentence for soliciting a 13-year-old girl for the purposes of prostitution in Limerick.
A judge presiding over his case at the time declared that Lynch had tried to give the impression he was protecting the children he was preying on when he was arrested.
During his trial, it was revealed that Lynch had been secretly recorded talking with an undercover garda about what he would like to do the 13-year-old child.
A spokesperson for First Great Western has confirmed to independent.ie that a member of staff was recently dismissed during a training period for providing false information on an application form.
