Two collisions occurred on the M50 motorway last night - one of which was a five-vehicle collision .

Four Dublin Fire Brigade engines and two ambulances attended the scene of the crashes at Junction 4.

A garda source told independent.ie that the first collision occurred on the southbound lane shortly after 7pm.

The second accident - a five vehicle collision - is believed to have been caused as a result of one driver's 'rubbernecking'.

Drivers on both sides of the M50 experienced delays tonight.

Gardai advised drivers to exercise caution while driving northbound on the M50.

A garda tweet yesterday evening advised motorists: "Please approach with caution."
