FIVE million cigarettes with a retail value of almost €2.4m have been seized by the Revenue.

The cigarettes were detected last Thursday at Rosslare Europort when officers stopped and scanned a ‘curtain sider’ truck as it arrived on a ferry from Cherbourg, France.

A Lithuanian man was interviewed by Revenue officials and investigations are ongoing.

The seizure is part of the Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting the supply and sale of illegal cigarettes in the shadow economy.
