Firefighters rescue man from container and battle big blaze during busy day across country

This is the moment Dublin Fire Brigade were called into action after a man locked himself inside a shipping container.

The rescue workers were called into action at 5.30pm this evening in Knocklyon.

A unit from Rathfarnham station responded to the incident and freed the trapped person using what appears to be an angle grinder.

They later tweeted: "Our Rathfarnham fire engine has freed a person from a container in Knocklyon after they realised they were locked in."

Later the busy firefighters in Finglas were called to the scene of a motorbike fire in North Dublin.

Photos posted online show one officer quenching the blaze with an extinguisher.

Meanwhile, firefighters in Bantry Co Cork battled a massive forest fire this evening.

The unit posted video footage of the blaze in of the R585 at Cousane/Kealkil this evening. Smoke from the fire was leading to driving problems in the area.
