Thousands of euro worth of personal items - including a fireman's car - was stolen from a fire station in Dublin.

The robbery took place at North Strand Fire Station in the early hours of Monday morning.

Gardai were alerted to the break-in and robbery at around 5.30am.

It is understood that some of the personal items included valuable gym gear worth hundreds of euro.

The car is believed to be of great sentimental value to the owner, as he rebuilt it in its entirety with his father.

It is a BMW 3 Series with a registration of 97 D 69253.

One firefighter from the station, Neal Dempsey took to Facebook to vent his disgust at the thieves.

“Your mother must be amazingly chuffed, I sincerely hope you never need our services, as if I knew who you were I'd be very hard pressed to show you any compassion,” he said.

A Garda spokesperson said CCTV footage is currently being reviewed but no arrests have been made.

They are appealing with anyone with information to come forward or contact Fitzgibbon Garda Station.
