Emergency services had to be called when a large truck caught fire on a busy road in Co Cork

Thick plumes of smoke could be seen billowing from the vehicle when it went up in flames near the Maxol service station at Carr's Hill, Carrigaline.

The cause of the blaze is not yet known, but emergency personnel said it was under control.

Chloe Connell, who was passing by the scene, said she saw two fire trucks and several Garda vehicles at the scene.

Another person who was in the area described the smell of "burning rubber and metal" as "terrifying."

Cork County Council have confirmed the fire services received a call to the scene at 9.43am.

"Fire Crews from Carrigaline and Crosshaven responded to the call," a spokesperson said.

"No further information is available at this stage."

It is not yet known if anyone was injured in the blaze.
