Fire engine stolen and dumped at the border, life-saving equipment stolen

A fire engine was stolen from a station, driven for some time before being dumped at the border, gardaí say.

Highland Radio is reporting that the vehicle, worth €400,000, was taken from Stranorlar Fire Station in Co Donegal.

The vehicle later found dumped at Carn on the border.

According to the station the vehicle wasn’t extensively damaged but vital equipment used when attending a Road Traffic Collision was stolen

A garda spokeswoman said: "Gardaí are investigating the unauthorised taking of a fire tender from Stranorlor Fire Station in Donegal. The tender was removed from the station over night. It was discovered this morning at Monnellan Road, Killygordon at 8.40am on April 3, 2017.

"The fire station and fire tender are being examined by Garda scenes of crime examiner."
