Female passenger (70s) killed following two-car crash last night

A woman has been killed following a road crash in Co Louth last night.

The female passenger, aged in her early 70s, was seriously injured when the car she was travelling in collided with another car.

She was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda after the incident which occurred at Clonmore, Togher shortly before 1130pm.

The woman was later pronounced dead and a post mortem is to be arranged.

The driver of the car in which the fatally injured party was travelling, a woman aged in her early 60s, was taken to Our Ladys of Lourdes with non life-threatening injuries.

Two occupants of the second car, a 29-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man were also taken to the hospital where their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Emergency Services attended the scene which has been preserved to facilitate Garda Forensic Collision investigators.

The road remains closed and local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses or with information, particularly those who may have been travelling the roads in the area of Clonmore, Togher County Louth between 11pm and 11.30pm last night to contact them.
