Separate investigations have been launched after a farmer was crushed by his tractor.

The 65-year-old, named locally as John O'Connor, was adjusting the stabilising bars at the rear of his vehicle when it rolled back on him shortly before 10am on Bank Holiday Monday.

Emergency services were called to the scene on a farm near Ballylongford, Co Kerry where the man was pronounced dead.

Gardaí and the Health and Safety Authority (HSA) have launched separate investigations into the incident.

A HSA spokesman explained that it is the fourth farm related death this year. It is the third death that has involved a crush injury.

"This is a topic that we have tried to bring to the attention of the public in recent times. Please be careful around farm machinery".
