A fire in a power house supplying three blocks of council flats in Dublin has left 19 families temporarily homeless, according to councillor Christy Burke.

The fire happened this morning at the plant supplying power to the Blackhall Parade, Queen Street and Marmian House flats in Dublin 7.

While the blaze was quickly brought under control it caused damage to the equipment inside.

“While power was restored to two blocks there are 19 families that have no power and have to be housed,” Cllr Burke told Independent.ie

“With the weekend we have there isn’t a hotel room to be found. Those affected have been told to contact Dublin City Council’s emergency accommodation unit this afternoon,” he added.

“We are trying to get beds for them. It is estimated they could be homeless for four to six weeks until new power panels are made,” Cllr Burke explained.
