Exclusive: Hugh McElvaney dances along to ‘Macerena’ remix video posted online after RTE Investigates programme

Controversial Monaghan councillor Hugh McElvaney stands by his claims that his now infamous “What’s in it for me” quote to an undercover RTE reporter was a ruse to lure the national broadcaster into a trap.

In an exclusive interview in tomorrow’s Sunday Independent, he speaks at length about his wealth, his bling lifestyle and future plans.

During an astonishing must-read interview with the Sunday Independent’s Niamh Horan, McElvaney even watched some of the satirical videos posted online following the controversy.

At one point the councillor sang and danced along to the tune of ‘Macerena’.

The full interview, which is published in tomorrow’s Sunday Independent, gives an insight into the former Fine Gael politician who asked for £10,000 from an undercover reporter who was posing as an Icelandic businesswoman.

In return for the sterling, he told the woman, called ‘Nina’, that he would lobby the government on behalf of a fictitious wind farm investors.
