The Euromillions €38.9m jackpot-winning ticket last night was sold in Ireland.

A spokesperson for the National Lotto said "This is fantastic news. We don't know where in Ireland the winning ticket was sold or when it was sold, and it might be Sunday before we know that."

The winning numbers were: 04,08,22,23,48 with Lucky Stars 01 and12.

The Irish are having tremendous luck with Euromillions. This is the third Euromillions jackpot winner in Ireland this year.

In January, a Dublin work syndicate claimed €88.5m with a ticket bought in the AppleGreen Service Station in Lusk, Co Dublin.

In July, a syndicate from the West of Ireland won €28.9m with a ticket bought at the Garryduff XL Store in Castlebar.

There was more celebration when a County Mayo priest was counting his blessings today after winning half a million euro.

The retired priest - who is based in Florida - was home for Christmas and purchased his lucky ticket in Malahide, Co Dublin.

The cleric, who has not been named, vowed to share his good luck with others. "But I have always had a policy of sharing my luck around," he added.

The priest became Ireland's 31st EuroMillions Plus winner in 2017.
