Emergency services are at the scene of a fire at a home in Co Kildare this evening.

The blaze was started at approximately 5pm at an unoccupied bungalow house in Lady Chapel Kildare.

Locals report that there is a large Garda presence in the area.

Firefighters are tackling the blaze and a Garda spokesman said it is too early to say if it was started intentionally.

The house is believed to be unoccupied and sources say it is owned by a retired member of An Garda Síochána.

A spokesman said: "Gardaí are at scene of a domestic fire at a house between Kilcock and Maynooth.

"The house was unoccupied at the time and there are no reported injuries.

"Fire Services are in charge at the scene. There are no indications if the fire was suspicious at this time."
