Elderly woman dies after being struck by 4x4 in bank car park

An elderly woman has tragically died after she she was struck by a car in a Limerick car park this morning.

Gardai went to the scene after receiving a report of a female pedestrian trapped under a vehicle in the Castletroy area.

The collision occurred in the car park of the Ulster Bank, Castletroy, on the old Limerick to Dublin Road, shortly after 10am.

When emergency services and Gardai arrived they found a woman fatally injured under a 4x4 vehicle.

It is believed that the 4x4 may have reversed into the woman as she was positioned behind it.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene and her body was removed to Limerick University Hospital.

The driver of the jeep was uninjured.

The vehicle involved was covered with tarpaulin sheeting and the scene was sealed off.

The bank has been closed until further notice.

Investigators have also called in a Garda Forensic Collision Inspector, as is normal procedure following a traffic collision, to forensically examine the vehicle and take measurements at the scene.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, emergency services cut a woman from a car which was involved in a minor road collision at Singland Cross Junction.

The woman is not believed to have been seriously injured.
