Elderly woman (88) killed in early morning Dublin house fire
An elderly woman has been killed in a house fire in North Dublin early this morning.
Emergency services were called to the scene of the domestic fire at approximately 3.40am.
Three fire appliances, an emergency tender, a Dublin Fire Brigade ambulance and a senior officer attended the scene on Ventry Park, Cabra West.
One elderly woman, believed to have been in her 80s, was taken from the home but she was pronounced dead at the scene. Nobody else was in the house at the time.
The blaze was brought under control shortly after 5am.
Gardaí and fire officers will now examine the scene to establish the cause of the fire.
The woman's remains have been taken to the city morgue in Marino for a post-mortem examination.
However the fire is not being treated as suspicious at this stage.
Meanwhile a pensioner is in "critical condition" in hospital after a fire broke out at a house in Waterford City in the early hours of New Year's morning.
The man was taken to hospital and treated for smoke inhalation after the blaze in the house on St Herblain Park in Kilcohan.
The man was visiting a couple when the fire broke out.
