THERE was a Tokay gecko shedding his skin, a raucous parrot, pygmy goats, sheep - and a motley crew of cats and dogs as the Pet Expo opened at the RDS in Dublin over the weekend.

It was a dog lover's paradise, with over 40 breeds on show - from rare breeds like the Leonberger, Saluki and Keeshond to more familiar and cuddly pooches. But cat aficionados were also catered for, with the World of Cats proving a strictly dog-free zone in order to keep feline tempers happy.

Over 15,000 people visited the eighth annual Pet Expo, which was held at the Simmonscourt Pavilion over two days.

Comedian PJ Gallagher tweeted a picture of his own dog, asleep on a beanbag, saying: "One hour in the park, two runs on the dart, three hours at the Pet Expo and 400 pals to sniff have left her a little tired."
