Motorists have been warned to "drive with extreme care" after a car was flipped over following an early-morning collision.

Commuters were advised there would be delays after the incident this morning as emergency crews attended the scene.

These photos show how the vehicle ended up on its side on the junction of Merchants Quay and Bridget Street in Dublin City Centre.

The Dublin Traffic Management Twitter account, which is run by Dublin City Council, has kept the public up to date with the situation.

They said: "Emergency services have reopened the South Quays at Merchant's Quay. However there is no access from Bridge St northbound across to Church St direction Constitutional Hill.

"Collision Cleared from Merchants Quay.

"Gardai still in place due to oil spill but traffic is moving much better. Drive with extreme care in area."

AA Roadwatch also made a note of where the worst affected areas are.

A spokesperson said: "The collision partially blocking the junction of Bridge St and Merchant’s Quay has been cleared from the South Quays.

"The heaviest delays are coming across the river from Church St: traffic has backed up past Hart’s Corner onto Botanic Rd and Finglas Rd.

"The South Quays are slow from George's Quay to Merchant's Quay."
