Dramatic rescue of young girl (17) from river by garda

A garda came to the dramatic rescue of a 17-year-old girl who was drowning in the River Lee in Cork city tonight.

The alarm was raised at around 8.45pm at which point two officers went out to George’s Quay in the city where they found the girl.

One officer jumped into the water and managed to bring the girl to the bank where he and the second officer were able to lift the girl to safety.

She was taken to Cork University Hospital where her condition was unknown.
