Gardaí are treating the death of a man on a Cork golf course as a tragic incident.
The man, named locally as Maurice Hennigan was discovered lying by a water hazard on the Lee Valley golf course shortly after 11am yesterday.
Paramedics were at the scene within minutes of the alarm being raised but Mr Hennigan, who was in his 60s, was pronounced dead before he could be transferred to Cork University Hospital.
It is thought that he fell into the lake while playing an early morning game of golf on his own - possibly following a heart attack.
the single man, from Ballincollig, Co Cork, was found by staff shortly after 11am.
Separate investigations are being carried out by the gardaí and the Health and Safety Authority (HSA).
