Cyclist (50s) dies after being found injured on road

A CYCLIST has died following a road accident in Cork.

The cyclist, understood to be a man in his 50s, was found with fatal injuries on a road at Ballyvelone, Enniskeane in west Cork at around 7.30pm this evening.

He was pronounced dead while he was being transferred to Cork University Hospital (CUH).

The circumstances of the incident remain unclear, a garda spokesman told Independent.ie that it's believed he may have become ill while cycling and then fallen from his bike onto the road verge.

Gardaí are investigating but now believe that no other vehicle may have been involved in the incident.

It is understood the deceased is from the west Cork area.

The Cork Coroner's Office has been notified of the incident.
