Convicted murderer found dead in his cell in Mountjoy Prison
A murderer convicted of killing a man in Tallaght in 2013 has been found dead in his cell in Mountjoy Prison.
The Irish Prison Service (IPS) confirmed this morning that a prisoner was found unresponsive in his cell on Wednesday morning. The prisoner was later pronounced dead.
Independent.ie understands the prisoner was Trevor Corr.
Corr (41) had pleaded not guilty to murder but guilty to the manslaughter of James Humphries (32) at Kiltalown Way in Tallaght on September 22, 2013. This plea was not accepted by the State.
On December 21 2015 a Central Criminal Court jury found Corr guilty by unanimous verdict of murdering Mr Humphries at Kiltalown Way in Tallaght.
During his trial the court heard how Corr fatally stabbed Mr Humphries as he lay in a bed.
In a statement to Independent.ie IPS said that the prisoner's death "will be investigated by prison Management and by the Office of the Inspector of Prisons who examines all deaths in custody.
"The cause of death will be determined by a coroner inquest in due course."
