Community in shock after crash which left one young man dead and six others hospitalised
A community is in shock following a fatal crash in Co Cork which left one man dead and another in a critical condition.
The two-car occurred on the R618 Cork to Ballincollig Road at about 8.30pm Tuesday night.
One car with five men in their early 20s on board collided with a second car occupied by two women in their late 20s at an area known at Leemount Cross.
A man aged in his early 20s - a passenger in the first car - was pronounced dead at the scene. A post-mortem is due to take place today.
The young man is believed to be from the Gilabbey Street area of the city.
The driver of this car, a man also aged in his 20s, has been taken to Cork University Hospital with what are described as 'critical' injuries.
The three other occupants of this car (all men) and the two women from the other car were also all taken to hospital.
Their injuries are not thought to be serious.
Diversion are in place at the scene on the R618 and garda forensic collision investigators are carrying out an examination of the crash site.
The road is not expected to re-open before mid-day today.
