Coast Guard helicopter rescues injured crewman from tanker in Atlantic Ocean

The Irish Coast Guard was involved in the rescue of an injured crewman 350km from the coast of Co Mayo.

The incident happened overnight and was a joint operation with the UK Coast Guard.

The tanker was on a trans-Atlantic voyage to the Orkney islands when the crewman became injured.

The man's condition is not yet known and he is to be transferred to Sligo University Hospital when the Coast Guard helicopter lands later this morning.
